SPECIAL ELECTION TO FILL A VACANCY STATE REPRESENTATIVE DISTRICT 82

AUGUST 8, 2017



Governor Kim Reynolds has directed that a special election shall be held Tuesday, August 8, 2017 to fill the vacancy in the Office of State Representative from the 82 nd District of the Iowa General Assembly due to the death of Iowa State Representative Curt Hanson. The 82 nd District consists of Davis County, Van Buren County and portions of Jefferson County.

Candidate filing begins immediately with the Secretary of State. The last day to file nomination papers is Friday, July 14, 5 pm.

Absentee ballots for the August 8, 2017 Special Election will be available in late July at the Davis County Auditor’s Office. Voters may vote early at the Auditor’s Office in the Davis County Courthouse during the regular office hours of 8 am to 4 pm as soon as ballots are available. The Auditor’s Office will also be open for absentee voting, Saturday, August 5, 8 am to 4 pm.

Absentee ballots to be mailed must be requested in writing no later than 5:00 pm on Friday, August 4, 2017. Absentee request forms are available from the Davis County Auditor’s Office or on the Auditor’s webpage of the Davis County website at www.daviscountyiowa.org. Forms should be dropped off or mailed to the Davis County Auditor’s Office, 100 Courthouse Square, Suite 2, Bloomfield, IA 52537.

The Davis County Auditor’s Office will pay the postage for all ballots returned by mail. Ballots must be postmarked prior to midnight, Monday, August 7, 2017 (the day prior to the election), or may be delivered to the Davis County Auditor’s Office before the polls close at 9 pm on Election Day.

Polls will be open from 7 am to 9 pm on Election Day, Tuesday, August 8, 2017.
